My point of view of everything!

Welcome to the world of the Oracle-Mike!

If humanity is the only intelligence in the universe, the universe is screwed!

Chuffed at my Daddy's hobby

So we have been to my Mum n Dads tonight. Not seen them in ages! :)

Dad has been working hard at his trainset in the loft!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8h4lAqWzJSA

It's in 3D unfortunately as I was trying out my LG Optimus 3D phone.

Still really professional layout!

Well done Dad! x

Flags of our fathers!

So, more blender testing last night. Keeps me off he streets I guess

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlmgvphgiuE

Testing the cloth simulation and the wind force modifier.

Problems with vertexes and normals in this render, but I know what is wrong, so have learned something new :)

Fruit of the Doom!

So I have just received a text from Orange stating that in February next year my monthly bill will go up by 4.14%. 'As inflation is at a 20 year high we are increasing our service charge'

Not a happy bunny at this news. An extra £1.28 on the monthly bill!!!! GGGRRR

I think I will set up a new telecommunications company, call it BANANA. It will be as bent as it looks and leave a funny after taste when consumed. It won't take it's customers depth of pocket into consideration because it will be making me money!

Don't think OFCOM will bother because it does not seem to be worried about the increase from Orange.

I'm sure that the other providers will follow suit and become more richer as we all get poorer!

Thursday already!

I can feel my life ebbing away from me today. It was Monday yesterday wasn't it? - Where has this week gone?

I have a headache this morning. :(

Possibly due to the two huge cupcakes I ate last night. I also watched Junior Apprentice on catchup too. I guess I have a case of Sugar overload!!!! Ha Ha

Well back to work today after the industrial action. See what kak it shovels my way!

NOTE **** - It is actually Thursday here in the UK, and NOT Wednesday as the blog time and date states! ROFL! - I am not going crazy!!!!

hhhhmmm I LOVE gingerbread!

Day off work - Industrial Action! - Got to support my fellow public sector workers.

Waiting for the new cuddle chairs to turn up from CSL. - Gonna make the living room so much more spacious. The exisiting L shaped sofa was great but flippin massive!

While I'm waiting, I just updated my LG Optimus 3D to Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread.

Seems to be much quicker and battery life is improved.

Lost a few pre installed Orange apps but hey-ho, who cares. - Everything else has transferred over correctly! :)

Lets see how it operates in day to day use now.

Blood Cells in motion. - Simple Blender 2.6 rendering

Simple quick (10 min) render in blender 2.6 of blood cells.

My first test of using particles and assigning a single object to the particle stream!

It looks a bit quick on YOUTUBE, i think because of the reduction in resolution. Original was in 1280 x 720.

More blendering!

A quick test of the Hair particle modifier in Blender 2.6

75 frames in total as a quick test. Render time about 11 mins!

Enjoy!

Messing with Blender 3d!

So I have been off work this week, catching up on my BluRay movies (STARWARS - hhhmmm) and messing with Blender 2.6.

You can get it at www.blender.org

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnBSck43qzg

This is a 9 second render that I have done this week - Ok, ok its taken almost a whole week to get this far, but man is it tricky to get right!

Roll on my next week off. More to come, defo!

R.I.P Steve Jobs

Gone but never forgotten. The genius creator of an inedible fruit product!

Thursday, 22 September 2011

This week has gone too quick!

Its Thursday already. Can't believe that the week is almost over. Don't seem to have done much, but we have.

2 trips out so far this week, 1 day cleaning and tidying.

What will today bring.

Who knows.

Seeing isn't always believing!

For yet another night, it looks like there is going to be clouds!!!

Rubbish for my astronomy! :(

Eager to get the scope skyward and image some DSOs and planets!

May have to wait until nearer November/October!!!!

Some great shots coming in from the States - I guess that when they are not having tornados the skies are pretty clear at night!

Let there be light!

So my 2 Philips SPC880NC's turned up at weekend; Bog standard CCD web cam. Unfortunately these do not work under Windows 7! :(

Fear not. There is a way to hack them to into SPC900NC's which are recognised by Windows 7.

So ... Both have been patched as per this web site; and are both seen in Windows 7.

One is to be modified for connection to my microscope, the other is to be a spare incase my proper astro scope bites the bullet.

For £12.80 + vat for the pair, I don't think its a bad investment?

THE ATOMIC JOKE

A sodium atom and a chlorine atom were walking down the street.

Sodium: "I think I've lost an electron"

Chlorine: "Are you sure"

Sodium: "I'm positive"

Chlorine: "I'm not positive, but I am now attracted to you"

Sodium: "Don't you assa(u)lt me!"

It then started raining and they dissolved into tears. They then went into a bar got steeped in alcohol, but this was not a solution to their problems, but caused further precipitation.

(For Professor Brian Cox!)

Chicken Licken ... The sky is falling in!

Watched some of FX's Falling Skies.

I like Noah Wyle, but as Sherby57 pointed out on twitter, the beginning was a bit boring!

First episode ... Bit slow in getting going
Episode 3 ... Bit better
Episode 4 ... getting there slowly

It's like Jehrico with Aliens!

The Dark Horse Comic that has been produced to accompany the series looks much better;

http://seriable.com/first-look-at-strange-as-heck-falling-skies-aliens/

Have to wait and see if there is a major climax to season 1, of if its cancelled mid season!

Fingers crossed we get to the end of season 1 at least.

Any hoo ... Warehouse 13, haven and Eureka all start again this month (July) so my Sci-Fi thirst will be quenched by the channel known as SyFy!

A Novel Graphic?

So I have just treated my system to a much needed upgrade of the Graphic kind. A shiny new Nvidia GTX 460 SE. (I know its not got all the cores of a GTX 460, but the lack of 48 extra cores is no skin off my nose! and it was cheap!)

I've had a WTF moment though! :(

Windows 7 Experience index has shot up so much for Aero now!
(I know that WEI is crap at performance stats but bear with me)

This was my original Video card. Nvidia GT 240 1GB DDR3 (96 Cuda Cores) Stock speeds

This is the new Nvidia GTX 460 SE. 1GB DDR 5 (288 Cuda Cores) Stock speeds.

After all that, the rotten HD is still slowing things down. It's a Hitachi 1TB jobby too. Sheesh.

Roll on pay day - SSD boot drive I think is in order!

I should point out that my PC is spec'd thusly;

AMD X4 640 3Ghz (4 true cores)
ASUS M4N68T V2 mainboard (Stock speed/voltage)
8GB DDR3 1033mhz Ram
1TB Sata Hitachi Boot Drive
Nvidia GTX 460 SE 1GB DDR5
ThermalTake M9 gaming case
8 billion in 1 (Or something like that) card reader
Dell 20" TFT screen
Logitech G15 gaming keyboard (I have CPU and Ram usage on my little amber screen!)
Logitech MX518 gaming mouse
Sata DVD/RW
Sound Blaster Audigy 2
Dell 2.1 speakers

So its no slouchy system! Even without overclocking!

Regardless of what WEI states about the HD being pants, all the games and Nvidia demos I have thrown at this thing dont seem to make a dent! :)

Guess there are still some things MS can't get right.

Lottery anguish!

Yet again, I have failed to scoop the Euro Millions prize!

Disappointed to say the least!

How can so many people in Europe not pick any winning numbers!

I don't get it!

Infrared photography. Pictures in a whole new light!

One of our old digital camera's got scared and leaked its battery juice all over its insides and stopped working ... so

Easy project to convert it to an IR camera whilst cleaning the acidy goo from its innards;

Vivitar 5188 - 5MP CMOS camera - Dead cheap and came with a wicked underwater housing;

Step 1, remove all the screws;

Step 2, remove the front and back case. Be carefull of any wires that are still connected.;

Step 3, carefully unscrew and remove the lens assembly;

Notice how the lens is red in colour, this is the filter that blocks IR light in normal operation. This has to be removed (carefully of course).

I did try to scrape away the red coating, but scratched the lens :( - removing it seemed the sensible option as its not a focusing lens and not really needed!

Step 4, get yourself down to the local photo processing place and ask for some film that has been developed but has no image (It should be almost completely black when looking through it) - There may also be some on your own negatives. I was lucky and had 1 frame of completely exposed and developed film with no image on it.

Cut out 2 disks the same size as the lens and place them back to back so no visible light can be seen.

Secure them in to the lens housing with 2 spots of superglue (1 on each side) makeing sure you do not cover the screw thread on the lens.

Step 5, re-assemble the lens in the camera holder and tighten as far as it will go, but do not over tighten as you will touch and then destroy the CMOS sensor and this mod will be useless!

Step 6, start taking surreal alien like pictures with your new IR wavelength camera!

What do you think then eh?

This is how all badges should be!

I love the hardware hacking scene.

Wish the access badges at work were as cool as this;

Where have all the fish gone?

It's no wonder fish are harder to catch.

YOU ARE USING THE WRONG EQUIPMENT!

Tiger Tiger, burning bright!

Here is Toffee in all her glory! :)

The only thing it is missing is the chin lasers. :(

I have not tried the lights or aounds yet, so once I have some large batteries I will be firing her up! :)

Woke up this morning to great weather - Hope it lasts!

Saturday, 4 June 2011

Look what I found!

Found this underneath a load of books in the office!

Taken I think in 1980-1981 at Duke Street Primary School in Denton.

Soooo many faces I have not seen for many years!

Thats me circled in red! Haw haw!

Everyone in this picture will be at least 40 now! :)

TFI Friday!

Well its the end of the week, the sun is shining and all seems well.

How long will it last?

Wednesday, 1 June 2011

Thursday morning - Good morning world.

A very good morning to you all.

Grey and a bit grim looking out of the window.

The poor guy across the road from us seem to have had his garden shed burned down yesterday!

His fencing is gone and I can see blackened remains of what was once his garden shed.

Lament the shed!

All the plastic brackets and 'thingies' on the house next door have melted.

One hell of a fire I guess! :(

Sad day for science!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-13601008

As reported by the BBC. Endeavour touches down after its last space flight! 19 years of operational flight - not bad going for something that was only supposed to last for 10 years!

Fairwell!

Terry and June

Blimey,

It's June already! :(

Where has the year gone?

Tuesday - Long train running!

Windows 7 training from today for the rest of the week! :)

Bring it on!

Sunday Sunday

Morning all!

Sleep well?

Hope so.

Gardening today, as its getting a bit overgrown!

Damn you summer weather!

Guitar anti-hero!

Here I am being silly (As always) with a wig I borrowed from my wife's fancy dress costume.

Now, where is that Dragon-Force CD?

Audition for new Ghost Busters film.

Found this old picture of a fancy dress costume I made a couple of years ago.

Do you think I could get a staring role in the new GB film?

Everything apart from the flight suit and the back pack were made by me. The backpack is inflateable and the flight suit was rented from a fancy dress shop. It was quite nasty though as it was nylon and full of static! :(

Rofl.

Recent holiday!

So Kate and I are back from our holiday. 1 week in Cornwall.

Seaton near Looe.

We stayed in an apartment .. Mount Brioni .. 23 apartments over looking the sea! :)

Wonderful.

Every day we did something different, Bodmin Gaol, Padstow (Had fish and chips at Rick Steins take-away on the harbour), The eden project! - Well worth a visit for all you budding tree huggers out there and shopping in Plymouth.

Glad to get home (for a rest!) - Watch out for links and pictures coming soon!

The first post!

Much better than the last post, as that usually signifies the end!

Welcome to my new blog. I though i was time to create a new one as the old MS hosted one seems to have been removed!

TTFN.
